2021 edition a QS World University Rankings confirms the presence of UVT among the most prestigious universities in Romania and worldwide, by occupying position 1183 in the general classification of ranked universities.
The 2021 edition of the QS World University Rankings includes the following seven universities from Romania: Babeș-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca, University of Bucharest, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University from Iași, Cluj-Napoca Technical University, "Gheorghe Asachi" Technical University from Iasi, the Polytechnic University of Bucharest and the West University of Timișoara. It should be noted that of the seven Romanian universities included in this ranking, four are members of the University Consortium, the other three universities coming exclusively from the technical universities in Romania.
In relation to this result, the rector of UVT, prof. Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, emphasized: "The Western University of Timișoara confirms its presence in the hierarchy of the first internationally rated Romanian universities, a result of its academic value. The QS World University Rankings evaluates more than 5.500 universities from different locations around the world, being one of the major benchmarks of international academic rankings. The good situation obtained by UVT in the QS World University Rankings 2021 shows above all the solidity of UVT's international reputation, a major component of our strategy to affirm the international competitiveness that we are developing".
The methodology used in the process of ranking universities through the QS World University Rankings is specific to all the processes carried out by QS and includes the following performance indicators:
- academic reputation – 40%,
- reputation among employers – 10%,
- student/faculty ratio – 20%,
- citations/papers ratio – 20%,
- teaching staff from abroad – 5%,
- students from abroad – 5%.
The positions on which the four universities from the University Consortium are ranked are: Babeș-Bolyai University from Cluj-Napoca (814th place), University of Bucharest (959th place), "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University from Iași (1005th place) and West University from Timișoara (place 1183).
