West Summer University (WSU) is a project for students, summer school type, organized annually at the Western University of Timișoara (UVT), together with the Student Organization of the Western University of Timișoara (OSUT), which aims to familiarize students from grades X and XI with a university environment, simulating the entire experience of student life, in order to support their decision-making process regarding the continuation of their educational path after graduating from high school. The 2024 edition of West Summer University (WSU) will be held during July 18 – August 3, in Timisoara, registrations are already open.
As part of the project, students will experience student life, living in a student dormitory and participating in a program of courses, seminars and laboratories representative of the first year of the bachelor's degree cycle, in the field for which they chose to enroll, supported by by university teaching staff from UVT. They will also take part in several vocational counseling sessions provided by the UVT Career Counseling and Guidance Center, through which they will be supported to develop their capacity for self-knowledge. In addition, during the summer school, participants will also take part in non-formal education activities, debates, competitions, information sessions, socialization activities and will also discover the opportunities that the municipality of Timișoara offers to students.
The rector of UVT, Marilen Pirtea: "The West Summer University project is intended for high school students who want to discover what student life means and who want to be informed about the educational offer of the West University of Timișoara (UVT). For all those who are curious, interested in carefully choosing their future college, or passionate about a very good school and vocational orientation, we offer them a special opportunity, during the two summer weeks at UVT."
Registration to participate in the 2024 edition of West Summer University (WSU) is done by completing an online form, available on the website wsu.osut.ro, until May 12, 2024 at the latest.
The West Summer University project is funded through the University Grants Scheme within the ROSE Secondary Education Programme. Attendance at West Summer University is FREE for high school students eligible for funding under the ROSE Secondary Education Program, being provided with accommodation in a UVT dormitory, meals and attendance at all project activities throughout its duration. The list of high schools eligible for funding under the ROSE Secondary Education Program can be accessed on the website wsu.osut.ro.
In the case of students studying at high schools other than those eligible for funding under the ROSE program, accommodation, meals and attendance at all project activities for the entire duration of the project are ensured by a participation fee of 200 lei. The payment will be made after the announcement of the list of confirmed participants, by the specified deadline, in an account that will be sent by the organizers to the participants by e-mail.
The participation fee for students classified as Romanians from everywhere is 150 lei.
