The West University of Timişoara is also present this year in the Times Higher Education Subject Rankings in the field of Physical Sciences (top 1001+ out of 1227 universities worldwide) finding itself among the six ranked universities in Romania. The subfields related to the field of Physical Sciences are: Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics and Statistics, Chemistry and Geology and Earth Sciences.
This ranking, carried out by the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE) since 2004, focuses on research excellence on a global scale, evaluating universities according to the following five dimensions, recalibrated for each field, the weights of the indicators being adapted to each field separately. For the Physical Sciences field in which UVT is ranked, the 5 dimensions were assigned the following weights: teaching activity (27.5%), research activity (27.5%), research impact as a result of the number of citations (35%), international activity (7,5%) and innovation, knowledge transfer to the socio-economic environment (2,5%).
Four of the member universities of the University Consortium were included in the 2022 edition of this international ranking.
About this international academic ranking, the rector of UVT, Prof.Univ.Dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, emphasizes: "The most internationally relevant universities in Romania are connected to the European scientific research network. And for the Western University of Timișoara, the research component has become a major factor of international recognition, the Times Higher Education Subject Rankings 2022 confirming this strategic orientation."
