"Smart Diaspora 2023 - diaspora in higher education, science, innovation and entrepreneurship" conference (April 10-13)

One of the most anticipated events of the TM2023 agenda, "Smart Diaspora 2023 - diaspora in higher education, science, innovation and entrepreneurship" conference, will take place between April 10-13, in Timișoara. The event set an objective of particular relevance for Romanian society, namely to create an environment conducive to the exchange of experience that facilitates the transfer of skills between Romanian researchers and those from the diaspora.

The 2023 edition of the conference is organized under the High Patronage of the President of Romania and the aegis of the Government of Romania, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitization, by the Timișoara University Alliance (ATU), UEFISCDI with the participation of the Romanian Academy. Timișoara's brand, as a well-known university city with an international circulation, will be highlighted through the diversity of activities, workshops and thematic workshops that will take place in the program of the event, for four days.

The event is organized in 38 Workshops. About 400 participants from the diaspora, 550 from the country and 300 from member universities of the Timișoara University Alliance are announced. Guests from the diaspora come from more than 30 countries, most of them from the European Union, but also include a significant contingent from the USA, Great Britain and the Republic of Moldova. Another special area of ​​origin is represented by participants from distant countries such as Japan, Singapore or Australia.

The conference begins on April 10, 2023, at the Romanian National Opera in Timișoara, through an opening ceremony (starting at 18 p.m.) in which national and local officials will participate, along with representatives of the four universities that are part of the Timișoara University Alliance and by the representatives of their partners, a generous and representative framework for all relevant institutions involved in the broad phenomenon of the representation of the Romanian diaspora.

In the following days, the conference will be held in sections of exploratory Workshops, organized on various topics, from education and psychology, to global economy, governance, smart cities, geomatics, entrepreneurial culture, technology transfer, sustainable food, omic sciences, frontiers of personalized medicine, applications of lasers in medicine, bioinformatics, micro and nanoelectronics, materials science, cross-border chemistry, translation and intercultural communication, Romanian language and literature studies, BigData and AI (artificial intelligence), cyber security, cryptanalysis with quantum methods and models non-conventional calculability, mathematics - engine of contemporary sciences, space - the new global continent, dynamics of cellular systems, digitalization of education, migration and mobility.

We are also honored to announce the presence in Timișoara, at the West University of Timișoara, of Mr. Jean Marie Lehn, laureate of the Nobel Prize for Chemistry, invited to the "Smart Diaspora 2023" Conference. On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 9 a.m., we are waiting for you at the event dedicated to the Doctor Honoris Causa award ceremony and the public lecture of Mr. Jean Marie Lehn, which will take place in the Aula Magna "Ioan Curea" of UVT. The event will benefit from simultaneous translation, and participants who wish to listen to the translation will be able to use a free mobile phone application (Interactio), using the personal headphones provided.

On the last day of the conference "Smart Diaspora 2023 - diaspora in higher education, science, innovation and entrepreneurship" (Thursday, April 13, 2023) a concluding session will be organized, in plenary format, during which the conclusions regarding the country's vision and objectives regarding research, development and innovation in Romania: conclusions, aspirations and directions for action (Aula Magna UVT, starting at 11 am).

The web page dedicated to this edition of the conference includes an extensive presentation of the objectives pursued within thematic areas from the 38 exploratory Workshops.
