"Still Life" by Sami Al Mouallem

Student films produced at Faculty of Arts and Design - UVT enters the circuit of international film festivals.

The short film Still Life by Sami Al Mouallem recently stood out in the competition of the "Rolling Ideas" section of the "Short to the Point" Festival (STTP), winning the award "Best Student Short. Short to the point" (STTP) is an international network for the distribution, broadcasting and promotion of short films and their authors, offering professionals and amateurs the opportunity to promote their films, screen them in non-conventional cinemas around the world and even to share their experience and knowledge with those who need advice and guidance.

Also at the end of February we received confirmation that the film was selected in the official competition of the international short film festivals "Staten Island Summer of Shorts" and "Barcelona Indie Awards". It's just the beginning of a route in the short film festival circuit that we want to be as extensive as possible. Moreover, in the next period, the decisions of the preselection juries from numerous other festivals where the film "Still Life" was entered are expected.

Sami Al Mouallem is currently a 3rd year student at the Department of Fine Arts Photography - Computerized video processing of the image within Faculty of Arts and Design - UVT and prepares his bachelor's thesis. The short film "Still Life" is a comedy that self-deprecatingly explores the border between dream and reality, achieved through the ingenious combination of filming and animation techniques. The film was produced within the faculty as a 2nd year exam project in the Video disciplines, with the support of fellow students, Bianca Pascu and Ana Maria Constanda and under the guidance of professors Conf. Univ. Dr. Dan Rațiu, Lect. Assoc. Dr. Ioana Dorobanțu-Gordon, Lect. Assoc. Dr. Florin Ianăș and Lect. Assoc. Rafael Vasilcin.

We keep our fingers crossed for Sami in future competitions and wish him the best of luck in his next film projects. It's a promising start, including for other films by colleagues that will be entered into festivals in the coming period. We also hope that his success will be a source of inspiration and encouragement for fellow students from generations to come!
