The Western University of Timișoara reconfirms its position in the first group of the best rated Romanian universities, according to University Metaranking 2023 edition, managing to rank sixth nationally, with a result of 11 points obtained following the evaluation process.
The rector of UVT, Marilen Gabriel Pirtea: "The presence of UVT in this edition of the University Metaranking confirms the leading position of our university among the universities in the western part of Romania, placing our university in the first position among the three ranked Timisoara universities (UVT, UPT , UMFVBT), even when the methodological criteria of the analysis have a dynamic character. As always, the result honors us, but also obliges us, for the future, to the qualitative development of our education and research processes."
The University Metaranking includes in the analysis 97 active universities in Romania (54 public and 43 private), of which only 31 (all public) were assessed as having international visibility and presence.
Similar to previous editions, the evaluation of universities through this Metaranking consisted in identifying Romanian universities with minimal international visibility (present in at least one ranking included in the analysis) and whose activity generated impact in the international academic area.
The nominated Romanian universities registered a total score of 236 points, being included in the analysis only those universities that have at least one presence in one of the nine international rankings according to the University Metaranking 2023 methodology. As a result of the evaluation process, the universities from the University Consortium obtained 75 points out of a maximum of 236 points (31,78% of the total score).
The presence of Timisoara higher education is highlighted in this Metaranking by the inclusion of three universities that accumulated 9,74% of the total score (23 points, of which UVT – 11 points, UPT – 7 points, UMFVBT – 5 points). Both the universities from the University Consortium and the ones from Timişoara recorded increases in scores in this year's edition.
According to the methodology used, the results and performances of universities obtained in the following international academic rankings of universities were taken into account: Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU); Center for World University Rankings (CWUR); Leiden Ranking (CWTS); Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers of World Universities (NTU); QS World University Rankings (QS); SCImago Institutions Rankings (SCImago); Times Higher Education (THE) World Universities Ranking; University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP); Best Global Universities by US News (USN).
The University Metaranking 2023 uses the methodology proposed by the members of the High Level Experts Group, appointed in 2016 by the Minister of National Education and Scientific Research, ensuring continuity of the original vision. From 2022, the University Metaranking will be published under the auspices of the Qualitas Center from UBB, with a team of internal and external experts. Since UBB signed COARA, the University Metaranking will use exactly the already classic and tested methodology from 2016, but there will be no detailed public presentations/analyses, as in previous years. All the analyzes presented are based on the data available on the websites of the international university rankings as of December 1, 2023.
