The Department of Social Assistance within the Faculty of Sociology and Psychology of the Western University of Timișoara, in partnership with the Anti-Drug Prevention, Evaluation and Counseling Center Timiș (CPECA), organized on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day the second edition of the information and education campaign of students from the social assistance specialization regarding the issue of tobacco, alcohol and drug consumption and the role of the social worker in preventing and reducing the risks caused by their consumption, as well as in the integrated assistance of consumers.

The action is dedicated to marking World No Tobacco Day, celebrated annually on May 31, since 1987, when the World Health Organization launched this initiative. 

During the event, organized in a synchronous online format, CPECA Timiș specialists Andreea Canea (social worker) and Dr. Liliana Abrudan (physician) challenged the first-year students, future social workers, to debates, contributing to the understanding of the role of the social worker who performs activity with substance users.

"This second edition of the World No Tobacco Day, organized together with CPECA Timiș, is a good opportunity to empower students to contribute to various actions to prevent the use of tobacco, alcohol or drugs among young people and to make them known duties and responsibilities of a social worker. Under the supervision of specialists from CPECA Timiș, our students have the opportunity to train from a practical point of view in the field of prevention, evaluation and anti-drug counseling, during internships or by participating as volunteers in the various projects implemented by CPECA, and this action opened their horizon regarding these opportunities", said the university lecturer.
