"Blockchain Entrepreneurship", at UVT: the first study program in Romania focused on workforce development through Blockchain education

This week, the postgraduate program "Blockchain Entrepreneurship" begins at UVT, which will last 3 months, with high-level participation and niche specialization, both by UVT teaching staff and guest mentors.

The Western University of Timișoara, engaged in an approach to integration within the most advanced trends of European higher education, proposes programs and areas of study and research at the vanguard of European university education. One such area of innovation, to which UVT focuses its resources and projects, is that of Blockchain technology, the "technology of trust", one of the fundamental technologies of the fourth industrial revolution, the one that will change the web from an environment of information into one of value.

This week, the postgraduate program "Blockchain Entrepreneurship" begins at UVT, which will last 3 months, with high-level participation and niche specialization, both by UVT teaching staff and guest mentors.

About the initiation of this innovative program, the Rector of UVT, prof.univ.dr. Marilen Gabriel Pirtea, emphasizes: "For several years, UVT has joined the trend of European universities exploring new trends and technologies of the future. And for the Blockchain field, we managed to form a core of experts at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics, who, together with invited external mentors, set a new direction of study and research, through which UVT becomes a university where new disciplines are developed, a true trendsetter in Romanian university education. The fact that Blockchain technology is so important for the European Commission, but also for the Romanian government institutions, stimulated us to open this new study program. Graduates of the new program will have multiple opportunities to apply their expertise in Blockchain technology as more and more fields emerge where this innovative opening is used. One of the recent examples is that of the implementation of Blockchain technology by the Special Telecommunications Service (STS), based on the Decision of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), as a complementary solution that can guarantee the integrity and strengthen the transparency and traceability of the electoral process, indicating the particularly high level of usefulness of this innovative project."

The European Commission considers Blockchain technology to be a strategic priority and will play a key role in driving innovation across multiple sectors and growing an inclusive, secure and democratic digital economy. The bodies launched in 2018, the European Blockchain Observatory and Forum and the European Blockchain Partnership, of which Romania is also a part, are pillars in tailoring strategies and developing the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI – European Blockchain Services Infrastructure).

It is also worth noting that Blockchain is among the most sought-after majors at an international level, alongside Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning, Robotics. It is one of the objective developments observed in the dynamics of the labor market, which also determined the adoption Resolution of the European Parliament, of October 3, 2018, which encourages member states to adapt university education plans to include the study of emerging technologies such as Blockchain.

In line with these trends and priorities, the West University of Timișoara is starting this week the postgraduate study program "Entrepreneurship in Blockchain", the first postgraduate program in this field in the country, a program managed by the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of UVT. Here is an interdisciplinary research group in Blockchain, which is coordinated by Prof.dr. Viorel Negru (UVT) and Lect.dr. Ciprian Pungila (UVT).

Program "Entrepreneurship in Blockchain" takes place online, over the course of three months, and has 23 participants in this first module, from several areas of the country, these being entrepreneurs and specialists from various fields, experts from the fields of finance, banking, law, journalism, programmers, students from master's and doctoral degree programs.
